“1000 greyhounds”

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Hello!

First: A quick apology to anyone who has been checking in regularly, only to find that updates to the Hound Blog have been a bit less regular recently. We are still here and goin’ strong! Lots of exciting things have been brewing here at the studio, keeping us pretty busy. More on that soon!

Second: Thanks so much to everyone who came out to our Hearts and Hounds celebration last month. Of course, a great time was had by all, humans and hounds alike. We will be posting photos from the event in the near future.

Third: So many wonderful items were donated to the Hearts and Hounds fundraiser auction- we can’t stress HOW MUCH we appreciate everyone’s generosity.

One item that caught our attention in particular was an adorable screen print poster from Chicago Printmaker and Artist, Diana Sudyka:

You may recognize Diana’s work from various gig posters around town, but she also has great prints of animals, historical figures and other ephemera available for sale on her website and at her Etsy shop. We also like her blog, The Tiny Aviary.

It turns out, Diana is also a fan of greyhounds and has teamed up with a few other artists, Tim Gough, Largemammal Design, and Mile 44 in an effort to help the nonprofit group, Greyhound Angels Adoption celebrate 1000 greyhound adoptions! The 4 artists are offering limited edition prints for sale to benefit GAA. The prints can be purchased individually or in a set of four. What a great chance to own some awesome artwork while simultaneously helping the greyhounds! We love it. Check out the Large Mammal Print website for more info.

A little something for Gotham Canine’s resident hound, Memphis:

greyhounds on gotham canine and mutt lynch winery

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

There was a little surprise for us on the web today: Gotham Canine is featuring our valentines! We’ve been fans of Gotham Canine for a while now so were were delighted to find ourselves featured there. Felicia, who runs the site, does a great job of seeking out new and interesting dog finds (just check out the blog to see what we mean) and her Valentine’s Day write-up is so thoughtful and sweet. Nicely done and our heartfelt thanks, Felicia!

*******

Additionally, Mutt Lynch Winery, an awesome dog-centric California winery, included a nice little write-up about us on their site:

Mutt Lynch Winery appeals to wine and dog-lovers of all types, and their labeling is great too:

Chris and Brenda run the winery and their greyhound Patch helps out as much as possible:

They write,

Patch. The winery dog. Well sort of. Patch’s idea of helping out at the winery looks suspiciously like his activities at the house – find the most comfortable place available, lie down, fall asleep, move only if forced to do so. Forklifts and picking bins seem to be in “his” way, not vice-versa. To his credit, Patch is a rescue ex-racing Greyhound from New Zealand who had a stellar career down-under. He was the king of his kennel so to speak, and thinks he still should be! His racing these days is limited to chasing squirrels and cats, when he’s not sleeping of course.

Believe us, we understand!

Patch is giving his friend Roxie one of our valentines for the holiday. Very sweet. We’ll be curious to hear how it goes…

dog art today

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

We’re quite excited that we were written up yesterday by one of our favorite blogs: Dog Art Today. Moira, who runs the blog, seems to have access to a never-ending stream of great dog art of every kind, and she had very nice words to say about our Greyhounds Vintage Valentines. Be sure to check out her blog when you are in need of a dog art fix and be prepared to find a ton of artwork you may never have known about otherwise. (We are also big fans of her Obama Dog Blog.)

Speaking of Valentine’s Day, Greyhounds Only is putting on a Valentine’s Day Hearts and Hounds Celebration of February 14th here in Chicago and you are invited!

For more info and to buy tickets online, check out the Greyhounds Only website.

greyhounds vintage valentines

Monday, January 26th, 2009

We’ve been working on something new for Valentines Day…

We’ve combined a a few of our favorite things- Greyhounds, vintage cards and pop art, into one great creation: GREYHOUNDS VINTAGE VALENTINES.

Set of 6 one-sided Valentine cards, each measuring about 4 x 5.5″ and sold with matching red envelopes. Sets contain 3 cut-out cards (mirroring the style of true vintage valentines) and 3 traditional rectangular cards.

These cards are lovingly hand-crafted and printed with high quality Epson inks.

Check out our Etsy shop to see the other sets or create a custom order!

go obama + go greyhounds!

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

While it’s likely that most everyone has heard about Paste Magazine’s Obamicon.Me site now, we’re still pretty entertained! For those not in the know, the site allows users to create their own “Obamicon” image, inspired by the now legendary Shepard Fairey poster. We did Slim:

Also, in honor of the inauguration yesterday, we are offering an 11 x 14 Fine Art Print of our Born to Run poster, available at our etsy site for $25. Each poster is printed 300 weight archival Moab Entrada Fine Art paper with Epson archival inks and is signed and dated by Barbara Karant on the back.

fancy-versary!

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

Despite the usual bad weather, January is a good month for Barbara. This week- the lucky 13th to be exact- marks the third anniversary of the day that Fancy came to live with Barbara, Easton, Slim and Turtle.

Fancy came limping bravely in the door, remarkably having no trouble at all with the slippery wood floors despite the broken hock and calcaneus bones in her right rear leg.

She never finished her last race but she sure raced into our hearts! After her surgical rehab she returned to Barbara’s never to leave again. (Even though Barbara had vowed never to have a white and something dog- she wears too much black clothing!) Fancy transitioned seamlessly into the Karant pack and has been a loving addition to the Karant household.

Also, Happy Birthday to Fancy! She turned six on January 1, 2009.

(Fancy is also an excellent Snobhounds model!)
