greyhounds on gotham canine and mutt lynch winery

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

There was a little surprise for us on the web today: Gotham Canine is featuring our valentines! We’ve been fans of Gotham Canine for a while now so were were delighted to find ourselves featured there. Felicia, who runs the site, does a great job of seeking out new and interesting dog finds (just check out the blog to see what we mean) and her Valentine’s Day write-up is so thoughtful and sweet. Nicely done and our heartfelt thanks, Felicia!

Additionally, Mutt Lynch Winery, an awesome dog-centric California winery, included a nice little write-up about us on their site:

Mutt Lynch Winery appeals to wine and dog-lovers of all types, and their labeling is great too:

Chris and Brenda run the winery and their greyhound Patch helps out as much as possible:

They write,

Patch. The winery dog. Well sort of. Patch’s idea of helping out at the winery looks suspiciously like his activities at the house – find the most comfortable place available, lie down, fall asleep, move only if forced to do so. Forklifts and picking bins seem to be in “his” way, not vice-versa. To his credit, Patch is a rescue ex-racing Greyhound from New Zealand who had a stellar career down-under. He was the king of his kennel so to speak, and thinks he still should be! His racing these days is limited to chasing squirrels and cats, when he’s not sleeping of course.

Believe us, we understand!

Patch is giving his friend Roxie one of our valentines for the holiday. Very sweet. We’ll be curious to hear how it goes…

greyhounds on pamperedpuppy.com

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

The lovely folks over at at pamperedpuppy.com are featuring Greyhounds on their site for the month of February, issue #83! Pampered Puppy is “the web’s largest online magazine and shopping portal devoted to luxury lifestyles for dogs,” so of course we are thrilled and flattered to be included!

The article, which was penned by Nicole Feliciano, is well written and informative. (Thanks so much, Nicole!) Check it out here.

While we’re on the topic of articles and interviews, the interview that Barbara did with Steve Dale in December is now available online for your listening pleasure: Listen here.

dog art today

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

We’re quite excited that we were written up yesterday by one of our favorite blogs: Dog Art Today. Moira, who runs the blog, seems to have access to a never-ending stream of great dog art of every kind, and she had very nice words to say about our Greyhounds Vintage Valentines. Be sure to check out her blog when you are in need of a dog art fix and be prepared to find a ton of artwork you may never have known about otherwise. (We are also big fans of her Obama Dog Blog.)

Speaking of Valentine’s Day, Greyhounds Only is putting on a Valentine’s Day Hearts and Hounds Celebration of February 14th here in Chicago and you are invited!

For more info and to buy tickets online, check out the Greyhounds Only website.

pdn article and the presidential dog

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

Continuing on with the theme of January being a good month, we have a couple more reasons to add to our list:

January is the month that PDN features a 1 ½ page article about Greyhounds! Look for the latest copy of PDN on stands now.

(Click images for larger, more readable versions)

Also, we’re excited about January because it’s the month of President Elect Obama’s anxiously anticipated inauguration! We recently submitted our “Get the Girls a Greyhound” poster to the ManifestHope:DC Art Contest, “Green Economy” category. Regarding this choice, Barbara wrote that:

“The populace of a nation that supports a green economy should also support the extended family unit to include a recycled pet. While there are many wonderful dogs in shelters there are also a class of “working dog” that provide an extraordinary opportunity as a companion animal. Like the millions of people the “clean and green” economy can lift out of poverty, these remarkable creatures should be rescued from a questionable fate and given a second chance at life after their tenure on the racetrack is over.”

While we sadly did not win (this time) it’s interesting to take a look at some of the work that did. It’s truly amazing how much creativity Obama and his forth-coming presidency have inspired. We are glad to have taken part in this movement and even more so to watch history unfold in front of us!

We are also starting to think we might write a note to George Stephanopoulos asking him to recommend a greyhound for the next presidential dog since the girls did such a good job cornering their dad through him…

Or maybe we’ll start working on VP elect Biden since he’s already talking about dog number two and this time, one from a shelter!

We’ll do whatever we can do to bring more visibility (and homes) to the Greyhounds!

greyhounds on L.A. unleashed

Monday, December 22nd, 2008

Last week Barbara was interviewed by Los Angeles Times film critic Betsy Sharkey, who has been chronicling the adoption of her greyhound, Riley, for the Los Angeles Times blog L.A. Unleashed.

Barbara wants to thank Betsy for taking the time to speak with her, this is one of the best articles on Greyhounds the Book that we’ve read yet! We’re thrilled!

Sharkey writes:

Barbara Karant is shameless when it comes to greyhounds, and that’s a very good thing for the rest of us. A professional photographer who usually has architecture, interior design or art in sharp focus, her world changed in 1997 when she got her first dog and her first greyhound, Easton. Although maybe it’s not so surprising that she was drawn to the breed since the architecture of these dogs is the essence of beauty and function, power and grace.

Thanks again Betsy, looking forward to speaking again soon!

pdn portfolio of the month

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

Last week for her presentation at the Apple Store, Barbara shared some of her newest work, which juxtaposes Greyhound imagery with her commercial architectural photographs. The resulting pairings are unexpected, clever and thought provoking. The pairings received great reception at the talk and Barbara thus decided to debut this work on her PDN Photoserve Portfolio.

This new portfolio has just been named one of PDN’s Portfolios of the Month.
